Katkari

PVTG community with deep forest knowledge.

  • Origins: Historically nomadic; Raigad, Palghar, Pune.

  • Occupation: Wage labour, bamboo work, fishing, marginal farming.

  • Cultural Identity: Oral folklore, biodiversity knowledge, seasonal migration.

  • Challenges: Landlessness, bonded labour history, documentation gaps.

  • Support Needs: Land rights, health & ration access, mobile ID camps, skill training.
